Every person can donate blood except the people with the following reasons. These reasons are categorised into two types. They are
1). Permanent Reasons
2). Temporary Reasons
People with the following Permanent Reasons should not give blood.
1. Had a positive antibody test for HIV (aids virus).
2. Have used narcotic drugs by intravenous route (injecting directly in the vein), even once.
3. Have had a stroke.
4. If you are suffering from conditions like hemophilia , Thallasemia or any other blood disorder.
5. Have had cancer.
6. If you are a commercial sex worker.
7. Have multiple sclerosis.
8. Have had hepatitis any time after your eleventh birthday.
9. If ever had myocardial infarction, coronary artery bypass surgery.
10. Have had Chagas disease.
People with the following reasons can't donate blood temporarly
1. Not feeling well for any reason, until symptoms are over.
2. Open–heart surgery, three years after surgery.
3. Cold, sore throat, respiratory infection, flu, until symptoms are over.
4. Sniffed cocaine or any other restricted drugs within last 12 months.
5. Antibiotics, two days after treatment is over if taken for infection.
6. Full–term pregnancy, six weeks after delivery.
7. Abortion or miscarriage, six weeks if after the first trimester (12 weeks).
8. Blood transfusion, one year after receiving blood.
9. Dental work, seventy–two hours after root canal or after extraction of tooth.
10. Sexually transmitted disease: Venereal disease, chlamydia, genital herpes, syphilis, gonorrhea.
11. Measles, mumps, chicken pox, three weeks from day of exposure.
12. Surgery, serious injury, when healing is completed.
13. Have had sex with a male or female prostitute within the past twelve months.
14. Difficulty of breathing, shortness of breath, asthma, no difficulty breathing on day of donation.
15. Tuberculosis (T.B.), two years after completion of treatment.
16. Aspirin.
17. A woman who is menstruating, (safer to donate a week after it).
