As the whole world is bothered about H1N1 flu (Swine Flu), here we provide some information about it which might be useful-
Symptoms
The symptoms of the H1N1 virus include fever, sore throat, body aches, headache,
runny or stuffy nose, chills and fatigue. Some people with the virus have reported diarrhea and vomiting. If you feel any of these symptoms, see your doctor immediately.
It May Spread Through
H1N1 flu is thought to spread in the same way that regular seasonal influenza viruses spread, mainly through the sneezes and coughs of people who are sick. But it may also be spread by touching objects that are carrying the virus and then touching your nose or mouth.
Wash Your Hands
Washing your hands often will help you avoid getting the H1N1 virus. "Hand washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds after touching objects, surfaces or another person's hands can physically remove viruses," says Dr. Clifford W. Bassett, assistant clinical professor of medicine at the Long Island College Hospital and a faculty member of the NYU School of Medicine.
If You Are Affected
Contact your doctor if you experience flu-like symptoms, especially shortness of breath or a fever higher than 101 degrees. If you are diagnosed with the H1N1 virus, your doctor may prescribe the antiviral medications Tamiflu or Relenza. You will need to stay home until you finish the treatment. Some doctors say that you should stay home until 24 hours after your fever breaks.
Use Of Masks
You may have seen many pictures of people wearing masks in order to protect themselves from the H1N1 virus. Some Experts say that the masks become ineffective the minute they become moist, which happens rather quickly.
Vaccine
Everyone is susceptible to this virus, but it seems to affect children, young adults and pregnant women most. Pregnant women definitely should get vaccinated against H1N1, as the virus can affect the brains of unborn babies.
